Pleased to announce my upcoming presentation at the annual Satchmo Summerfest, a two-day celebration of the birthday of America’s greatest embodiment of jazz and humanity, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. On Saturday, August 6th, I’ll share the incredible story of Dave and Iola Brubeck’s partnership with Satchmo to premiere The Real Ambassadors, a jazz musical that provided Armstrong with one of the most meaningful roles of his storied career. My new book on the musical tells a story full of twists and turns, how the three artists had to overcome numerous obstacles to bring their message of integration, acceptance and above all, love for one’s fellow man to the stage at its historic 1962 premiere. At 3 PM, I’ll be joined by my friend, Ricky Riccardi, Armstrong biographer extraodinaire and we will spin music and rarities from this magical musical. Plus, two days of great music, gourmet Cajun food and “les bons temps rouler” should make for an awesome experience — I hope you can join us there!
