Keith Hatschek
Educator
As the Music Management Program Director at University of the Pacific, Keith is
involved in creating and delivering curriculum to a wide range of future music
industry professionals. He serves as Faculty Advisor for the Pacific Music
Management/MEISA Club. He was conference host for the 2006 International
Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association conference, held at
University of the Pacific.
Author
Keith's first book was published in 2001 titled, "How To Get a Job in the Music and
Recording Industry." Since it's debut, it has become a standard reference work for
those entering the music business. An updated second edition was published in
fall 2007. Published at the end of 2005, "The Golden Moments: Recording
Secrets of the Pros," features more than 50 top audio producers and engineers
sharing their wit and wisdom on the art and science of music recording. Leading
industry trade journal, Pro Sound News, hailed the work as, "Truly a book for
everyone interested in audio...a highly relevant collection of advice and
comments."
Keith also writes a monthly column on recording and music technology for Echoes
- Insights for Independent Musicians. Previous articles and commentary have
appeared in the following media outlets: Tech TV, Recording Engineer/ Producer,
Audio Media, Pro Sound News, The Sacramento Bee, Songwriter, and A/V
Producer. Two highly-regarded newsletters were written and edited by Keith in the
1990s, The Competitive Edge and Market Leader. He has published a number of
book and film reviews in the peer-reviewed MEIEA Journal. His current research
centers on the career of Dave Brubeck as well as music business curriculum.
Music Industry Consultant
Prior to joining academe full time in 2001, Keith founded and managed Keith
Hatschek & Associates, a full service marketing and public relations practice
headquartered in San Francisco. A list of past clients may be found at the
Services page of this site. During his career, he has engineered or produced a
wide variety of audio and video programs and is a Voting Member of the
Recording Academy and a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
