in The Real Ambassadors

In the early 1960s, at the height of the civil rights struggle, Dave and Iola
Brubeck created The Real Ambassadors, a musical the featured wit, irony and
the inimitable Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong to make the case for equality. This
year's symposium will consider the genesis of the work, Armstrong's central
role, its historic 1962 Monterey Jazz Festival performance and the legacy of
Dave and Iola Brubeck as advocates for human rights.

Music Industry Programs: The International Perspective
Featuring Ken Ashdown, Vancouver (BC) Film School; Sally Gross,
University of Westminster, London; & Henric Lindstrom, Linnaeus University,
Kalmar, Sweden
This panel will consider the structure and curriculum on non-US music
industry studies programs. Panelists will present a short overview of their
program, its size, curricular makeup, accreditation standards, as well as
challenges and successes. The objective will be to develop a global
perspective on what elements and issues are common with US programs, as
well as which differ and why.
